NEPQ sequences questions to lower a buyer's guard before asking about the problem.
What is NEPQ selling?
Definition
NEPQ is a sales questioning framework that has a rep ask a sequence of questions designed to lower a buyer's defensiveness, so the buyer states their own problem instead of being told about it. It stands for Neuro-Emotional Persuasion Questioning, built by Jeremy Miner, founder of the training company 7th Level.
How it works
Miner's premise is that a buyer who feels pitched raises their guard, and a guarded buyer stops sharing what the rep needs to know. NEPQ's questions are sequenced to keep that guard down, opening with connection before moving toward the problem.
Practitioners commonly group the sequence into five stages, listed below. In every stage the rep asks and the buyer talks, which is the reverse of a feature pitch.
When it fits a buyer
NEPQ suits cold outbound and skeptical, price-sensitive markets, where buyers expect a pitch and have learned to resist it. A warm buyer who has already decided has no guard to lower, so the connection stage adds time and nothing else.
The question sequence
Connection
Open in a way that does not read as a sales approach.
Situation
Get the buyer describing their current setup in their own words.
Problem awareness
Let the buyer name the cost of the problem themselves.
Solution awareness
Have the buyer describe what solving it would look like.
Commitment
Confirm the buyer's own next step, not the rep's.
How PitchGenius applies it live
On a live call an NEPQ rep asks "What made you take this meeting?" and then stays quiet until the buyer finishes, instead of answering with a feature. The rep moves to problem-awareness questions only after the buyer has described their own setup.
PitchGenius picks NEPQ from the buyer's DISC and OCEAN read before the call, and the Buyer's Blueprint page lists all four options.
When NEPQ is the match, the uploaded script's spoken lines are re-voiced into NEPQ phrasing instead of shortened into a summary, and the live overlay shows an NEPQ badge beside the buyer's name.

Frequently asked questions
01What does NEPQ stand for?
Neuro-Emotional Persuasion Questioning, the framework Jeremy Miner built and teaches through his company 7th Level.
02How is NEPQ different from SPIN selling?
Both use sequenced questions, but NEPQ places more weight on lowering a buyer's defensiveness before asking about the problem, where SPIN moves more directly from situation to need.
03Where does NEPQ show up in PitchGenius?
NEPQ is one of the four techniques a call can be matched to. When it is the match, the pre-call script rewrite and the live overlay badge both reflect it.
04Who is Jeremy Miner?
The creator of NEPQ and founder of 7th Level, a sales training company built around the framework.
